being complete with fully inflated tyres. If your car is not
complete, please tell us as it could affect its value and we may

What is a complete vehicle?
A complete vehicle is a car or light van (officially known as
category M1 or N1 in EU directive 92/61/EEC) which contains all its
essential components, in particular, but not limited to, the
engine, coachwork, transmission, catalytic converter (if originally
fitted), wheels and fully inflated tyres. A vehicle does not
have to be driveable nor does the engine have to run in order for
it to be complete.
<< Hide
Does my car have to be
free from damage?
No, but when we give you a quotation, it is based upon your car
being free from "Significant Damage" such as damage sustained
in a collision or as a result of an act of theft or
vandalism. If your car is significantly damaged, please tell
us as it could affect its value and we may need to adjust the
quotation.

Does my car have to be free from waste?
No, but o ur quotation will be based on your car
being free from waste. Being free from waste means that your car
does not contain any significant items of refuse such as garden/
household waste or old tyres etc.; basically anything that does not
form part of the car itself.
If your car does contain waste, additional disposal costs
may apply. This could affect the quotation, however we will
always discuss this with you first. To get
an instant, no obligation quote click here.
<< Hide

an instant, no obligation quote click here.
<< Hide
Do you accept motorcycles?
We may be able to accept motorcycles in some areas, however we
regret that we cannot provide online quotations for
motorcycles. If you wish us to quote for your scrap

form and remember to tell us that it is a motorcycle.
<< Hide
Do you accept caravans?
No, unfortunately we do not accept caravans at this
time.
<< Hide
Does my car need to have a
valid insurance policy?
No, your car does not need to have a valid insurance policy in
order for it to be accepted at a Cartakeback scrap car recycling
centre. However, we strongly advise that you do not drive a
car on the public highway without valid insurance; instead you
should arrange for your scrap car to be collected. To get an
instant, no obligation quote click here.
<< Hide
Does my car need to have inflated tyres for
it to be collected?
If your car does not have inflated tyres, please let us know in
advance as this may affect the type of recovery equipment that we
use. If we are not able to use a standard recovery vehicle or
it takes longer than normal to collect the car, this may affect the
quotation. If we do adjust the quotation, we will always give
you the chance to accept or reject it. For a free scrap
car valuation click here.
<< Hide
Does my car need to be in an accessible
location for it to be collected?
Your car needs to be safely accessed by a standard recovery
vehicle. The ground must be solid enough to reasonably allow
access by the recovery vehicle, with fully inflated
tyres and close enough to allow the car to either be driven
or moved using a winch or overhead crane directly onto the recovery
vehicle without obstruction. If the car is not easily accessible
please let us know in advance as this may affect the type of
recovery equipment that we use.
If you would like your car to be collected by us the amount
which we quote will be based on your car being in an accessible
location. If your car does not meet this condition it may be more
difficult to collect which could affect the quotation, however we
will always discuss this with you prior to your car being
collected.

Questions to consider when choosing where to recycle your car
Am I getting good value
for my scrap car?
You should be wary of unscrupulous companies who try to trick
you into thinking that scrap cars have no value.
The value of scrap metal fluctuates in line with worldwide
demand for steel. The costs of processing, and if you need us
to collect your car, the distance travelled and time taken, will
reduce the amount that can be paid to you. At present, most
scrap cars have a value, even when collected. To value your scrap car
<< Hide
Does the company which I am considering,
have a license to take back and treat my scrap car?
Not all companies that accept scrap cars are licensed by the
environment agency as they do not meet the required legal
standards. Every one of Cartakeback's scrap car recycling centres
are fully licensed by the environmental agencies.

approval from any car makers?

exclusive scrap car recycler in the UK, so you can rest assured
that we'll treat you and your car to a professional standard.

Will an official DVLA Certificate of
Destruction be issued?
Watch out for anyone who tries to offer you a phony certificate
or who offers to send your V5C registration document to DVLA for
you. Without the correct certificate, your car won't be
deregistered correctly meaning that you'll have to continue paying
road tax and your car may end up back on the road without your
consent.
Cartakeback will send you an official DVLA Certificate of
Destruction in line with the regulations, removing your car from
DVLA's database permanently, so it can't be returned to the
road.

Will my car be treated correctly and without
any harm to the environment?

be sure that the waste oils, tyres and batteries will be disposed
of correctly and not just dumped in ditches or tipped down the
drain?
All Cartakeback scrap car recycling centres are regularly
audited to ensure that scrap cars are treated legally and without
any harm to the environment.

<< Hide
Will my car be recycled in accordance with
the EU targets of 85% by weight?
Some companies cheat the law and don't bother to meet the
recycling rates set by the regulations. This gives them an
unfair advantage as they make more money at the expense of the
environment.
All scrap cars processed by Cartakeback are recycled in line
with the EU targets so you can rest assured that you'll be doing
your bit.

Making the right decision
Can my scrap car be
recycled by any business?
No, only businesses which have special licenses issued by the
environment agencies can accept scrap cars. It is a criminal
offence for a business to recycle a car without an Authorised
Treatment Facility permit however there are still businesses out
there which will readily accept your car without a license. To read more about
licenses click here.

What are the End of
Life Vehicle Regulations?
The End of Life Vehicle Regulations are designed to reduce the
impact that old cars have on the environment when they reach the
end of their useful life. The regulations were introduced in
two parts. The first set of regulations came into effect in 2003
and require end of life vehicles to be de-polluted, that is the
removal of all hazardous materials such as fluids, tyres and
batteries, at an Authorised Treatment Facility before any of its
parts or materials can be re-used or recycled. The second set
of regulations came into effect in 2005 and require both car makers
and Authorised Treatment Facilities to meet tough recycling targets
of 85% by weight per vehicle.

cover?
The End of Life Vehicle Regulations apply to vehicles which are
in class M1 or N1 and three wheeled vehicles as defined in EU

Motorbikes (including motorbike based tricycles) and passenger
vehicles with a revenue weight over 3,500 kg or those that have

at an Authorised Treatment Facility.
