Cartakeback.com has launched a recycling certification scheme which is intended to promote the use of compliant facilities for the recycling of end of life vehicles following its success in meeting tough EU recycling targets for the second year in a row.
The level of recycling which is achieved from the de-pollution and parts recovery process alone leaves most Authorised Treatment Facilities somewhat short of the 85% recycling target. Cartakeback, however, has developed systems to ensure that all Authorised Treatment Facilities in its network achieve the required 85% target, for every vehicle processed, through the further recycling of non-metallic materials. This additional recycling is carried out by Cartakebacks ten shredder operator- shareholders, using post shredder technologies.
In a recent letter to Authorised Treatment Facilities, Steve Norgrove, Head of the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) Producer Responsibility Unit, wrote This is not an aspirational target, and to miss it is a criminal offence punishable by a fine. It has been clearly shown that the 85% target is achievable.
The new recycling certification scheme enables Cartakeback Authorised Treatment Facilities to display a Recycling Compliance Seal on their websites showing that they have met their recycling obligations for the previous year. Disposers of vehicles such as local authorities and the public can check to see if the seal is valid by clicking on the seal which will present them with a certificate containing the company details, compliance period covered and date of issue.
